I’ll just say it out straight: I am a TV addict. I can’t seem to help myself. If I find a good story, I’m hooked. Movies can be great, books can be good, but television creates characters I can revisit regularly and connect with as if I know them.

(No, I don’t think I actually know them.)

Television is a comfort, a touchstone to come back to when the world goes wacky — as it usually does. It’s an escape from what is ordinary and real to what can be extraordinary and enveloping. Unfortunately, the world of broadcast television does not always value this kind of story telling, opting instead for cheaper reality tv. I say it’s time to give as much attention to quality television as possible. There are people like me who are tired of watching crap, and if we band together, we can do our best to change the television landscape.
